Education and work aren't what they used to be!

I was supposed to post something else, but this subject has been on my mind for a long time. We are always told that to get a real good job, you have to go get an education. I wasn't too good at school when I was younger, but I was told many times that I should go to school to get a better job. I applied to Concordia university and I was accepted...only after they refused the two degrees that interested me most: Business and Teaching. I wont hide it that I was disappointed to go into my 3rd choice, which was Classics. This degree is not dancing like a ballerina but a degree relating to study of ancient Greek & Roman literature, archeology and history. You have to know how to write really well, be able to research detailed information and be most of all...to remember almost everything! I also took a minor in Chinese language. I met different kinds of people from different degrees and the one thing that surprised me are the number of people that aren't even smart enough to be doing what they are doing! I met people that are in marketing, international business and I knew more than them in almost anything. It happened more than once that I helped many people in those fields because they literally were horrible. However, they had good grades when they applied for those degrees so they must be good, right?
Entering the real world can be ugly. I have been working since I can legally work and I never had a problem finding a part-time job when I was in school. After I graduate, my job finding was like hitting a titanium wall with hooks that kept you there. Companies today have literally no idea how capable or smart one is even if they don't have the relevant degree to get the job. I have applied to so many positions in many fields. Mostly all were rejected because I didn't have the experience required. It's a simple and nice way of telling you, "We don't want you because your degree is garbage and you'll never be able to get a job here." That might be putting it a bit bluntly, but I am totally right! The only places that do call me are call centers...Don't get me wrong because call center jobs are good when you're going to school but not for a career. I have on several occasions been called to be told I haven't been retained for the job. I would ask them, "why?" They would just answer, "You don't have the experience necessary to do the job." I remember replying twice at this by saying, "How am I supposed to get the experience necessary if you don't give me a chance to prove myself?" That's how it is in today's job market. They hire good people that have experience or the degree needed and that's OK. However, many other people that are employed are just plain idiot at what they do, but they had a bigger mouth than me at the interview.
It might seem that I am complaining, but that is the reality of today's job market. We employ the wrong people in the right positions and we employ the right people at the lowest paid jobs. I know that I will work hard to be my own boss because I have the capacity to have my own company and the will to do so!
Thanks for reading my complaints, he he.
