Good intentions might be bad!

I was going to write something China has I had mentioned in an earlier blog; however, this story came to my attention. Recently, South Korean activists have been sending propaganda leaflets to North Korea. They have been doing it in a creative way I might add. They put their propaganda inside clear plastic bags. Then they inflate the bag with helium, which will make float in the air with the wind.

What is dangerous about this situation is that officially, both Korea's are still at war. Over the past several years, South Korea has made tremendous efforts to bring N.Korea closer to them via stronger economic ties. It is only recently that both sides have removed loud propaganda speakers on the boarder towns of the DMZ. A quick side note for those of you who do not know that DMZ means. It is the Demilitarized zone and it is a buffer zone between both countries. It is the most heavily concentrated area of landmines int he world; covering the entire DMZ except within the Joint Security Area. N.Korea also seems to be very sensitive to any kind of information relating to them even more when it comes to their great leader Kim Jong-il.

The activists were told to stop sending propaganda towards the north, but they have not stopped. Since it is so easy to send helium bags with the right wind path, they keep doing it as to inform their fellow Koreans on the health of their leader. There were resent reports that he had suffered a stroke but that kind of news would never reach the outside of his compound. What surprises me more is that authorities haven't arrested them on charges of propaganda distribution or something more relevant to that. Although they do mean well with their acts, they are endangering an already fragile truce for the moment. Here's hoping their wont be another needless war between them as the world is already messed up as it is!

So long as they can speak openly, without preconditions, they can work it out. They could stop the leaflets if they really wanted to but that may be construed as an act of brutality by the aggressor. Sometimes it's best to ignore things and work behind the scene.
