A new beginning for the world

I didn't need to go to bed last night knowing who would have won the U.S. presidential elections. Watching CNN as the night passed by, I was surprised at first at how McCain had an advance in the east coast. However, that all changed once most of the polling stations were closed and Obama gained seats like hot little muffins. As of now, Americans can be happy to have a new beginning with Barack Obama. I listened to Obamas speech which was the same old rethoric as before and then to McCains speech. I was utterly surprised at how McCain gave his best speech of the whole campaign! You have to give the old man some credit for going the whole way. I don't know if some of you saw this, but they even had a close up of a man that had a Nazi tattoo on his neck!
I kept hearing "African-American" during the whole campaign...let us get one thing straight: the majority of U.S. voters are white at a %74 statistical number. Do you think they cared if he was black or not? It's not because of the skin color that he won; It is because the man has charismatic character that resonates in voters values and minds today! It is a fact that he is the first African-American to be president and that's great because the U.S. is a multicultural society just like Canada. Although they do have a much higher black population than Canada. So if you were thinking he is president because black people went out to vote than you're thinking wrong. Actually, they are the lowest ethnic population to vote in the U.S. except for this presidential election.
"Change", that's what Obama kept saying during his campaign. As a young voter myself, I understand what he meant by change. I have strong moral values, but in today's crazy world people think differently than one another. Coming January 24th 2009, Barack Obama will be sworn in as president and at that point in time the real challenge will begin. Here are some points that I think Obama will have to concentrate on to succeed:
  • The economy
  • Withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq & Afghanistan
  • Domestic problems such as education and health care
  • Fix relations with allies i.e: CANADA

That is a small number of points that I could think of as of now. I wrote to fix relations with Canada because we are the U.S.' closest ally. Over a span of 8 years, our relations have never been as low as they are now! An effort with us would go a long way in improving economic relations among many other things.

Here's hoping Obama will create less craziness than the republicans have done over 8 years! I know that he is up to the challenge, but there are so many things to fix that it might take 2 presidential terms to make things right.
